Speculative Futures: Robotic Meditation imagines a distant future in which humanity has entrusted its continuity to machines. In the work’s original narrative, an artificial intelligence discovers a group of half-buried nanny robots, remnants of an intergalactic ark created to safeguard human embryos. Activated by the rising sun, the solar-powered robots slowly move their heads in a gesture of reverence, worshipping the source of their energy as ancient civilizations once did.
Presented as a robotic and video-sound installation, the work invites visitors to enter an immersive meditation guided by Tibetan chants and the synchronized movements of the robots. They are oriented to a video of a technological sun. Their calm gestures contrast with the urgency of today’s environmental crisis, raising a fundamental question: if humanity can no longer protect its own habitat, should it delegate the survival of the species to artificial intelligence?
The robots are open-source creations whose assembly instructions can travel digitally and be reproduced anywhere. Rather than transporting physical objects, the project circulates information, allowing a global robotic meditation to materialize across borders.
