Michael Goldgruber’s work positions itself, as it were, on the cusp of the present.
At the center of his photographic oeuvre is ecology, or rather the accelerated collapse of this complex web of relationships. It is an intense and constant encounter with all the densely intertwined damage to nature, where he works out the fault lines of perception in order to find a visual language beyond the voyeurism of nature’s destruction.
Hoping for the best also means taking action. Michael Goldgruber portrays the many researchers and places of scientific research where the sensitive balances of nature are being studied in order to develop measures to save it. Climate and biodiversity research has been continuously expanded in recent years, and so, in addition to the excellence of individual researchers, some institutes are also new and exemplary architectures.
There is a touch of heroism in the artistic portraits of this research landscape. Through the axial clarity of the image construction and the subtle use of light, Michael Goldgruber creates an aesthetic space that conveys optimism for the future, even in times of crisis. One thing is certain: what we do today will change the future.
