Wania Laila Castronovo works with drawings, texts and audio pieces. “WIR” is a text on the condition of being a “we”, as a result of gender issues, starting from the domestic environment. In WIR, we inevitably belong to one another through shared experiences we have not chosen, passed from one generation to the next.
Lucy Ivanova, “13 women during the contractions”. “I drew this paper almost a year after I gave birth to my baby boy. Lipstick is my open mouth colour, colour of my tongue and chewing gums, exposed to three shifts of doctors and midwives. This old lipstick was given to me by my mother many years ago, but I didn’t use it until I decided to depict my maternity house memories. During those most painful moments I cried ‚Mamma!‘ and then,‘I’m a mamma I‘m a mamma I‘m a mammaaaa!‘. My mother told me she didn’t shout during the labour as she didn’t want to frighten me.I didn’t see any blood as after 30 hours of contraction process I forced doctors to do the c-section, after which I felt guilty because I didn’t manage to ‚do my job by myself‘
