H0pe Project Art Service or h0pe is a curatorial project that explores the field of exhibition-making and operates at the intersection of artistic practice and curatorial experimentation.
Through regular open calls, artists are invited to respond to specific tasks or themes, encouraging diverse and unconventional outcomes and offering alternatives to established exhibtion making formats. Our themes often emerge spontaneously from exhibitions we wish existed, or experiences we would love to encounter ourselves.
Founded by Marcus Wagner in Newcastle, UK, in April 2024, H0pe Art Service is primarily run by him. Occasionally, he collaborates with invited artists and curators on specific projects. Looking ahead, he aims to build a permanent team of like-minded individuals, which maybe is more of an illusionary dream than a realistic scenario.
The curatorial logic of H0pe drifts somewhere between fanhood and critique — a celebration of aesthetic-fun excess, paired with a sideways glance at the machinery behind it. The expectation of the outcome is low and high at the same time, while beeing mainly interested in a feeling of weirdness or suprise. Hope exhibitions rely strongly on applications and how people feel triggered by certain topics, which are somehow made up to feel sligthly halluzinated by. The format offers a place for alien applications which seem out of place of any defined “scene”, allowing outsiders to enter and pushing aesthetic judgment toward unfamiliar and expanded territories.
