KUNSTVEREIN GARTENHAUS is pleased to host the launch of Submission Declined by Jeff Wall Production published by HELA Press. The evening will feature a conversation between Pierre Bal-Blanc and Miriam Stoney.
Submission Declined presents the unapproved Wikipedia page submission for Jeff Wall Production, a conceptual label instigated by Pierre Bal-Blanc. From inception to legacy, this text serves as a performative gesture of resistance to institutional protocols of authorship and the dynamics of audience engagement. A lexicon and history of Bal-Blanc’s practice, Submission Declined is a mirror held up to encyclopedic authority. It supplies the very evidence of ‘notability’ that the Wikipedia system demands, staging its own entry into legitimacy by becoming the reference it was once denied.
Submission Declined is published by HELA Press and translated from French by Miriam Stoney, and with an introduction by Michael Kurtz, will be available to purchase in the space.
HELA Press publishes books that explore the relationship between image, performance, and text. Our catalogue features poetry, prose, and essays, along with the indefinable, including new works and translations.
Embracing the paperback tradition at the heart of public engagement, our inaugural series is at once conceptual and graspable. We publish artists, writers, and researchers from around the world.
HELA Press was founded in London in 2025 by Helena Czernecka. The series is distributed worldwide and designed by Teo Schifferli.
