Inci Eviner addresses the tensions of being a woman in Turkey, a country that embodies the intersection of Asia and Europe. The human figure is central to her work and has appeared in painting, installation and multi-channel video projection. Eviner’s recent video installations conjure dreamlike image-scapes, drawn from historical engravings, miniature painting, ceramic tile designs and architectural plans. Groups of figures are looped in continuous, repetitive movement, in a choreography that suggests eroticism and sadistic violence.
