Soundrides & Feminist Mobility Utopias in Vienna
In 2025, the city of Vienna will once again become the stage for SPIRAL BIKE, a festival that radically merges bicycles, sound art, and urban space. This participatory RAD Performance transforms urban infrastructures such as bridge ramps, bicycle lanes, and spiral bike paths into temporary spaces for concerts, performances, and discussions about the future of mobility.
In the performance heck A CARe less WORK, performer Tanja Peinsipp, together with Ulrich Schleicher (sound), explores how we can speak about cars from a feminist perspective in the 21st century. Through aerial acrobatics, object manipulation, and dance, they deconstruct the car trunk as an object. Live concerts by Conny Frischauf and Michael Fischer respond directly to the location: Frischauf’s long-term project Waters and Borders engages with the Danube and other bodies of water in varying contexts, addressing questions of geopolitics, national identity, ecology, and climate change. Fischer focuses on spatial sound, adapting his sonic explorations to the site-specific acoustics – this time, under and around the Brigittenauer Bridge.
Between performances, you can get real bike tattoos, a project by Martina Moro and Conni Ratriot.
The specially designed Soundrides – mobile multi-channel sound systems mounted on cargo bikes – turn sound art into motion and invite you to rediscover Vienna as an acoustic playground and a space for socio-ecological transformation. This time, with a DJ set by Qamareen.
