Music and space intertwine with the fabric of urban everyday life and form the cultural practices of those who are part of it. Shifting phases in the daily routines, traffic or holidays build the rhythm of the city and of its inhabitants. The public spaces, urban cultures and hope symposium searches to approach this research field from various perspectives and widen the academic view on the topic. Thus speakers as well as the academic and artistic board from different professional and cultural backgrounds are shaping the very core of the conference and bring in their perspectives. In cooperation with the mdw - University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna and their third international conference of the Urban Music Studies Scholars’ Network “Groove the City – Move the Streets”, taking place 17+19 September 2026 at mdw – University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna, a wide variety of aspects will be explored from the backdrop of social, cultural and political dimensions of sound in urban context.
