Okuda San Miguel transforms Vienna’s most famous vacant building
Curator: Jakob Kattner
In May 2026, the facade of the former APA Tower in Wien Döbling will become the canvas for a large-scale artwork by Spanish urban artist Okuda San Miguel. In collaboration with Calle Libre, a mural spanning around 1,100 m² will be created – making it the largest mural in Austria. The colorful composition addresses social, societal and gender inequalities.
The initiative is realized in cooperation with the City of Vienna and BUWOG, and also highlights the ongoing urban development in the nearby Muthgasse area.
Born in Santander, Spain, Okuda San Miguel (1980) lives and works in Madrid, where he operates from his studio in the Spanish capital. His distinctive iconographic language marked by geometric structures, multicolored patterns, and universal narratives has positioned him as one of the most recognized and admired contemporary artists worldwide.

Rising high above the surrounding neighborhood and long hidden behind construction barriers, the former APA Tower has shaped the skyline around Muthgasse for decades. Standing vacant for nearly twenty years, the building is passed daily by thousands of people and has become a symbol of urban stagnation for many residents.
