OFF_screen is an open format for discursive conversations about unfinished works in a cinematic context. The concept envisages the presentation of the work in its current stage and the discussion surrounding it as catalysts for a reflective engagement with that part of the moving-image production process which usually remains invisible. This provides insights both into the various individual artistic practices and approaches, as well as into the difficulties and challenges of artistic creation in general. At the heart of the event is a specific question regarding a problem area that is blocking the creative process, which the filmmakers pose to the invited panel and the audience. The event will be held in English.
The guest artist and filmmaker Borjana Ventzislavova is currently working on her experimental documentary Everything I wanted to ask Tati and poses the following question for discussion: “Which cinematic or dramaturgical strategy serves best to distinguish these two functions of the voice – the epistolary voice-over commentary and the narrative voice in dialogue with the protagonists, without losing the connection between them?”
