Object to Digital with Okyena Collective
Kunst Medien & Technologie Workshop
Verbindung zu esel.at
What truly belongs in a museum? Who gets to decide what stories are told in museums? And how can your personal memories reshape an exhibition space?
In this 3D Archiving and Participatory Archive Workshop you’ll learn how to scan and archive personally and culturally meaningful items with free tools.
Join artists Merci Ewuresi and Farai Awindor from the Okyena Collective, alongside mediator and OPEN SPACE curator Muhammet Ali Baş, for a fascinating, hands-on two-part workshop, where we will focus on different objects from West Africa and on the objects you, as participants, bring with you. Together, we will challenge traditional archiving methods and put the power of cultural preservation directly into your hands! Over the course of the two sessions, we will collectively design the Community Vitrine in the OPEN SPACE exhibition area.
In this workshop you’ll learn how to create stunning three-dimensional digital models using nothing but a smartphone and free open-source software. And you will add your personal artifact and its story through your perspective to the OPEN SPACE – a new gallery at the Weltmuseum Wien for many voices.
Please register until the 7th of October
Who can participate?
Everyone! Absolutely no prior experience with 3D scanning is needed. Participants must commit to attending both dates as the second session builds directly on the first.
What to bring:
Bring one object that carries meaning to you, your family, or your community. It doesn’t need to be rare or expensive! It could be a favorite cooking pot, a garment, a family tool, a musical instrument, or a keepsake from a journey. What matters is its story and context.
If you have a smartphone from 2019 or later, bring it along! If not, don’t worry. We have loaner devices available to ensure that everyone can participate.
Hungry for a new skill? - then sign up for our hands-on workshop. The number of participants is limited.
