We are pleased to invite you to the opening of POPiD, Maja Vukoje’s first solo exhibition at WONNERTH DEJACO.
Maja Vukoje’s works open up the internal boundaries of the medium. Material, technique, motif and theme tip over, flow into each other, inform each other. By working consistently in the transitional zones of painting along the lines of a critique of postcolonial power relations, Maja Vukoje advances the development of painting as a medium of critical cultural production.
Maja Vukoje was born in Düsseldorf in 1969. She studied painting at the University of Applied Arts in Vienna. For her work she has been awarded the following prizes: Prize of the City of Vienna for Visual Arts (2020); Outstanding Artist Award, Federal Chancellery of Austria (2015); Austrian Graphic Competition, Prize of the Province of Burgenland (2005); Georg Eisler Prize of Bank Austria Creditanstalt (2004); Premio di pittura Golfo della Spezia (2000);
