This lecture investigates three concepts - translation, transition, and transduction - as distinct operations of mediation in artistic research. Each names a different kind of passage: between structured systems, within a continuum, or across heterogeneous media. Drawing on Benjamin and Simondon, the lecture develops each notion conceptually and examines how they operate in recent compositional work. A closing discussion invites participants to locate these operations in their own practice.
Luc Döbereiner is a composer and researcher whose work explores the fragility, contingency, and materiality of sound through instrumental composition, electroacoustic work, and adaptive computational processes. His pieces have been performed by ensembles throughout Europe. He has taught at the UdK Berlin, the HKB Bern, and has been Professor of AI in Composition and Sound Synthesis at the University of Music Trossingen, and has been a post-doctoral researcher at the IEM Graz and the CeReNeM in Huddersfield.
