A space that resembles a home, a place of retreat, silence, safety, yet the moment you remain within it, it becomes clear that protection is never complete. The walls evoke a shelter, but the air is dense. Softness does not relax, it preserves the pulse, like skin that remembers touch and impact at the same time. The space does not stand still, it reacts to presence, as if absorbing whatever we bring with us.
The starting point is simple, the human being is not a stable construction, but a constant movement between fear and desire, between body and memory, between what we show and what we leave unsaid. Intimacy here is not a refuge, instead it amplifies. Everything quiet becomes louder, the repressed takes on form. Objects that are meant to protect reveal their sharpness.
Home appears here as an extension of the body, a space that can be both shelter and detonation. To imagine oneself in a warm, soft bed, while feeling something inside counting down.
What is proposed is not an escape from discomfort, but the possibility of remaining with it. Beauty and terror do not cancel each other out, they touch, intertwine, exist together. Perhaps home was never a place without danger. Perhaps it is the one where we learn to be with our own tension.
And there, between softness and explosion, between the gentle and the frightening, a space emerges in which it is possible to remain, and to endure.
“In Situ” is a curated program for invited, emerging artistic positions. Over six months, six exhibition formats will be realized, each given about a month to engage with the space. The formats are intended to develop from their spatial context. Selected concepts evolve in the process of realization, supported by Kultur Haus, into a final body of work.
We are excited for your visit!
