Glass Leaves, Farm Animals presents 40 photographs from an archive of over 350 photographs. The photographs were taken by the artist’s father between 1972 and 1974 in Vietnam, Laos, and Cambodia while serving as a US Air Force pilot. Over 50 years of storage, the individual sheets of Kodak photo paper significantly discolored and coiled. Forgoing traditional conservation techniques, a uniquely curved glass display-frame was made for each photograph in the archive to preserve their physical transformations. The selection of photographs in this exhibition, which focuses on aerial photography and photographs taken while inside an airplane, is displayed on a single plinth spanning the length of the gallery.
Kyle Thurman would like to thank Linda Ross at Ross Art Studio, Boston, and Flickinger Glassworks, Brooklyn, for their production support.
