Kerstin Engholm Gallery is pleased to present the catalogue recording the two artist exhibition A Sort of Homecoming with gallery artist Anna Jermolaewa and Lithuanian artist Audron? Vaupšien? that took place at the Contemporary Art Centre CAC Vilnius in February–March 2013

The catalogue, and the exhibition, explores themes of travel and return in the work of the two artists. Equally important to the exhibition, and implicated in every return, is a sense of home and homeland – whether Austria, Lithuania, or Russia (and their former geo-political selves) – certainly a topical consideration in times of mass economical migration as a result of the global financial crisis. A specific connection between Jermolaewa and Vaupšien? is family experience of exile to Siberia. In her Untitled (Gulag) 2012 Jermolaewa records a pilgrimage to the place her family was banished. For Jermolaewa—who has lived many years in Austria—traveling to Russia forms a meta-narrative within her oeuvre as she looks for signs of both (soviet) stasis and change. These are themes that Vaupsiene has also explored in her work: making an insightful pairing in A Sort of Homecoming.
