In this extraordinary adaptation of Franz Kafka’s A Report to an Academy,South African director Phala Ookeditse Phala portrays an ape-man with emotional depth and subtle irony, conveying his suffering and oppression. The story is told from the perspective of the ape Red Peter, revealing his relationships and struggles with the world around it. Central themes include otherness, inhumanity, alienation, dissociation, and the unbearable reality of not feeling at home in one’s own body.
Kafka’s Ape has already captivated audiences at numerous festivals in Australia, Great Britian and the USA . It was the theatrical sensation at the 2024 Edinburgh Fringe Festival!
