Julia Haugeneder: The Crunchtime
Verbindung zu esel.at
In her exhibition The Crunchtime. Where the rubber hit the road, Julia Haugeneder explores social cohesion as well as states of exhaustion and wear. Her sculptural practice, which employs bookbinding glue and pigment, jute and linoleum, focuses on the tension between dystopian and optimistic visions of the future. Floral wall elements collide with the rubber residue left by car tyres. How can we learn to live together better, collectively and democratically, rather than remaining fixated on fantasies of the apocalypse? In the spirit of Michel Serres’s The Natural Contract (1990; German translation 1994), the exhibition advocates an understanding of nature not as a resource, but as an interlocutor in its own right.
