Impressions on Colonialism
with Pablo Martínez-Zárate
A poetic excavation of power, memory, and resistance, Impressions on Colonialism weaves personal experience with historical and geopolitical fragments to explore the lingering force of colonial structures in the present.
Performed live through image, sound, and voice, the piece unfolds as a cinematic essay that resists linearity—inviting the audience into a landscape of haunted histories, fragile intimacies, and unresolved futures.
Pablo Martínez-Zárate is a Mexican filmmaker, artist, and researcher working at the intersection of memory, territory, and experimental media. His practice explores the poetics of resistance, care and deep listening through hybrid forms that blend documentary, interactive narratives, live cinema, and critical pedagogy. At the intersection of body and territory, he proposes an aesthetic of the fissure—a way of seeing and narrating that unsettles, that insists, that resists. He is the author of Eccentric Pedagogy: Artistic Research in Times of Crisis and founder of IberodocsLab, a platform for documentary experimentation in Latin America.
