Hegemonic Regimes in Science, Technology, and International Relations. Some Reflections on Their Interactions

Abstract: The lecture will be an extension of a recently published article
in Nature on “The End of the Science Superpowers”. (J. Rogers
Hollingsworth, Karl H. Müller, E.J. Hollingsworth, Nature Vol. 454 (2008),
412 - 13). The lecture will focus on the concept of hegemony in three
different domains (science, technology and international relations), will
specify their historical dimensions and will explore their inter-relations
across time.

J. Rogers Hollingsworth is currently Professor in the Department of Sociology (University of Wisconsin) and Professor in the Department of History (University of Wisconsin), Visiting Fellow in the Neurosciences Institute (La Jolla, California) and Visiting Scholar in the Institute for Nonlinear Science (University of California, San Diego).

This lecture is jointly organized by the Department of Contemporary History, University of Vienna and WISDOM.
