Hazy Reminiscence as a Joyful Residue

Hazy reminiscence as a joyful residue is a deliberate play on the paradox: the more vivid and detailed memories seem, the more likely they are to be a fabrication of the original event. Conversely, the clouded fragments are more likely to be authentic. To claim that all memories are blissful is itself a deception or perhaps a comforting illusion born of an enduring nostalgia for what has long been lost.

Almost half of all people possess a false first childhood memory. Most are mundane; some conceal psychologically significant experiences, while others arise from a child’s inability to preserve reality due to the absence of language or from confusion in the chronology of early life. Clothed in the garments of generated impressions, some untrue recollections are a lie told to oneself in the attempt to seize a desired reality that was only partially there.

This group exhibition, featuring the works of Katharina Biser, Alexandra Feusi, Magdalena Maller, Sarah Mühlbacher, and Barbara Tunkowitsch, is an interplay of voices and intimate stories. Exploring the question - How do falsified memories shape our personalities?
