A space for care and translocal Practices
A new art space is taking shape in SOPHIE 7 - the former Sophienspital in Vienna’s 7th district. MEZEKƎRƎ deliberately anchors its artistic and curatorial reference points in the Global Majority and its diaspora, creating a translocal space with international connections, charting new paths conceptually, thematically, aesthetically, and in terms of socio-political engagement. The space will launch in October 2026.

Come as you are, and come ready to put something down. At the door, leave the tension, the worry, the low constant hum of vigilance. This room has been tuned for release.
MEZEKERE means to remember. Not a backward glance, but a labor, an offering out of love, care and affection — the work of gathering what was scattered, of keeping a fire lit so that others can find their way to it. Here, remembrance is not sealed behind glass. It is something you do with your body, your voice, and the people beside you.
We open with conviviality, because conviviality is where our communities have always done their most serious work. To gather, to feed one another, to move until the weight lifts — this is how grief becomes bearable and how memory stays alive in the body rather than only on the page.
