TecTales

For its second edition, TecTales invites the artists and filmmakers Ida Kammerloch and Kurdwin Ayub, as well as the sound artist Kasho Chualan.

In the films of Kammerloch and Ayub, personal journeys intertwine seamlessly with geopolitical tensions. Like undercover agents, the filmmakers navigate through material spaces, and enter intangible concepts in which transnational identities, political symbolism and longings are negotiated in equal measure.

Kammerloch’s ULTRA ALL INCLUSIVE explores the Kremlin Palace Hotel in Antalya, a replica of the Moscow Kremlin, which attracts mainly Russian tourists with its luxurious “Ultra All Inclusive” services. Through observation and an inner monologue, Kammerloch analyzes the wellness facility and examines how its architecture and operation reflect broader cultural and ideological narratives.

In Paradise! Paradise!, Ayub follows her father Omar, who emigrated with his family to Austria in 1991, on his journey to Erbil, the capital of the autonomous region of Kurdistan in northern Iraq, to purchase a retirement or vacation home. Filmed in a home-video style, Ayub captures escalating family tensions shaped by traditional values and patriarchal power dynamics, set against the backdrop of a region marked by its proximity to active conflict zones.

Chualan’s sound performance interweaves a resonating santoor, jingling toys, tape and vocal fragments to create an experimental soundscape. Through manipulated instruments and tweaked electronics, Chualan constructs a raw and transparent expression.

TecTales is a multidimensional screening event at discotec, organized by Tina Kult. The event presents significant positions in contemporary video art and, alongside the exhibition program, creates a dedicated and communal space where moving images can be experienced in their full length. TecTales also features a musical and culinary program, providing a platform for lively discussions, creative interactions and valuable interchange encounters.
