Verdachtsfälle (Abu Gabi x Jakob Schauer)

After a first explosive stage encounter during the pandemic in 2020, sound artists and composers Abu Gabi and Jakob Schauer reunite for a show that promises raw sonic intensity. Emerging from a shared background of breakbeat socialisation and experimental electronics, the Vienna-based artists open up brutal spaces of sound – equal parts catharsis and confrontation. Noise becomes language, rhythm becomes rupture.

Ernst Lima

Ernst Lima is a trans-media artist, composer, and sound designer based in Vienna, Austria. Limas work operates at the intersection of visual arts and music, encompassing installations, sound design, and performances. In addition to their solo practice, Lima frequently collaborate with international artists on compositions for expanded performance projects. In liminal and often mantric installations Ernst Lima expands the boundaries between cross-worldly and inter-medial existence. Through the use of of multi-instrumental sounds, exploring the transition of bodies and their physical and mental reactions to technological self-extension, Ernst Lima’s presentations create symbiotic relationships between physical and virtual corporeality expanding genres of sound, installation, live concerts and visual works, which highlights the physical reactionary component in their work. Fluid but always deeply set, Ernst Limas compositions eschews single genres and identities, as it wades through influences spanning experimental electronic, electro-acoustics, film scoring, combined with the types of raw guitar loops from which her songwriting process often originates.

JSB Trio (Berlakovich, Voglsinger, DNA)

Jürgen Berlakovich: guitar, bass & electronics
Stefan Voglsinger: drums & electronics
DNA sequences (Mammoth, Opium, Malaria, Peyote, SARS-CoV-2…): electronics

Jürgen Berlakovich uses a specially developed DNA sonification software for his compositions and live-sets. This DNA-sound-translator is able to transform DNA sequences into sound and music on the basis of a genetic system called Codon. The DNA sequences thus become almost fully-fledged musicians and independently play various synthesizers and virtual electronic instruments.

Berlakovich performs live together with drummer Stefan Voglsinger. Interacting with various DNA sequences, they form an idiosyncratic musical trio that combines drums and bass and guitar riffs with DNA-generated electronic sound textures.

The resulting music spans – depending on the DNA sequences, for example from mammoths, peyote, dengue and malaria pathogens, various mosquito species or even the SARS-CoV-2 genome – a narrative framework of its own, oscillating musically between melancholic jazz sounds, ambient textures, rock and noise.
