Studio Conversation with Lorena Juan and Isa Schieche

At this studio conversation, Isa and Lorena will present their practice and talk about what it means to work beyond art hotspots. They will reflect on its frictions and joys, their reasons for continuing this work, and how alternative forms of community and cultural production can emerge beyond metropolitan norms.

After more than a decade working in Berlin with queer feminist methodologies, Lorena Juan has recently taken her work beyond the city, directing the Biennale für Freiburg. For her, this experience opened up new questions around audience, access, and identity politics outside urban art centers.

Isa Schieche is an Austrian artist with a curatorial practice whose work in rural contexts queers ideas of tradition, folklore, and belonging. She was part of the program board of the Festival der Regionen, which took place in Braunau am Inn, June 2025. Her films about lesbians in the Upperaustrian countryside were screened at film festivals like SXSW- Texas, BFI Flare London, Palm Springs International Film Festival, Frameline48 San Francisco and Kasseler Dokfest.
