The Ecology of Attention: Art Criticism in the Expanded Now
– Margit Neuhold in conversation with Ewa Borysiewicz –
As an echo of how technology reshapes the (art)world, art criticism within the arts’ ecological system is expanding. Today, the field disperses across platforms and formats – Instagram, TikTok, Substack, YouTube, memes – extending beyond traditional media like newspapers and journals. Have these new formats aligned with a younger, hyper-contemporary audience engaged in cultural developments beyond art itself? Amid digital saturation, information bubbles, and AI-generated content, does criticism still serve as a space for reflection and resistance, or has it become a mode of participation mirroring dominant discourses?
Setting aside the usual “crisis” refrain, interest in art criticism is resurging – along with renewed esteem for human writing, a hopeful sign as the field adapts.
Join us this November as we warmly welcome
Ewa Borysiewicz (Poland) – art historian, researcher, co-editor-in-chief of the online magazine MOST and
Margit Neuhold (Austria) – author, educator, curator
for an engaging evening dedicated to the ecology of attention in art criticism.
