The Left Bank is an underground collective active in Iran. With a fresh and urgent energy, they challenge the body of a corrupt, rent-driven, anti-aesthetic and anti-historical cinema. Working through a council-based structure and workshops under the supervision of Parham Sarkeshiki, the collective produces experimental and underground films that remain deliberately indifferent to mainstream cinema, festival cinema, and state-sponsored cinema. Taking a clear stance against the hegemony of narrative film, The Left Bank insists on another cinematic language language perhaps a more truthful one rooted in lived experience, shared memory and formal resistance.
