The Workshop BEYOND LABELS by Nina Sandino is part of the exhibtion “after the last ready-made”.
Worldwide over 150 billion pieces of clothing are produced per year… Yet many of these clothes are left unworn and unloved …
How do we meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs? What if we could slow down, fostering a culture of appreciation instead of exploitation? What if instead of appropriating, using and discarding we could switch our practices to caring and reparing?
“Care and repair” as a political strategy, quoting Orsola de Castro in her book Loved clothes last: “…a statement that the act of caring for our clothes extends to the act of caring for our environment (and body), and marks our gratitude by valuing the work of the people who make the things we wear…”
During this workshop we will reflect on our relationship with clothing, the concept of planned obsolescence, fleeting trends, perishable materials, and about repair as a post-capitalist care practice.
The workshop is led by performance artivist Nina Sandino and is open to everybody (with or without disabilities). There is no age limit and no experience needed.
Bring your favorite piece of clothing and one piece you would like to give away.
