Becoming Mangrove is a performance-based research project that weaves together oral tradition, ecological interdependence, and practices of care. Drawing on Rama cosmology from the Caribbean Coast of Nicaragua, feminist and decolonial theories of care, and contemporary sound and movement, the work approaches shapeshifting as a strategy of survival — one rooted in listening, adaptation, and relational responsibility.
The project unfolds from an oral story carried through generations of women in the artist’s family: the tale of her great-great-grandfather, believed to transform into a tiger. Never written down, transmitted only by voice and memory, this story becomes both the material and the method of the work. Rather than reconstructing a lost ritual, Becoming Mangrove proposes an embodied inquiry into how care, memory, and transformation persist despite displacement, colonization, and the fragility of transmission.
This final event brings GLIMPSES to a close by opening toward futures — future lineages, future ancestries, future ways of sensing and belonging.
On the same evening, visitors will have a last chance to see Bettina Eigner’s exhibition INTER EGO, which remains on view at eindorf.
In INTER EGO, Eigner examines the emotional ecosystems emerging in digital spaces, exploring how shared vulnerability, self-presentation, and resonance contribute to contemporary forms of identity.
A project by Ancestral Synonyms and KASAL in collaboration with eindorf.
