Nick Pagan + Yanagi Duo

Nick Pagan (21:00)

live electronic/experimental/ambient/punk/synthpop/futurist sounds

Best known as the keyboardist of the ethereal/neo-classical/electronica/ world music quintet The Changelings, Pagan’s career actually began as the vocalist of The Fanatics;one of the American Southeast’s first punk rock groups. A highly visible and controversial figure in his home town of Columbia, S.C. his venom fuelled performances and irreverent attitude inspired both love and hate in equal intensity from the locals. He spent the 80?s flirting with mod, electro – pop and goth groups before finally settling down in 1995 with The Changelings. The Changelings were on a succession of labels including World Serpent (label of Coil, Current 93, Sol Invictus) and are now with Middle Pillar Presents. In the 7 years the group was together (1995 – 2002) they received glowing international press and acquired a devoted following. It is also during this time that Pagan performed on recordings by Mo Tucker (The Velvet Underground) Jarboe (Swans) and Steven Severin (Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Glove) Since the demise of The Changelings, he has lived in many places and persued a variety of styles. The Prague Post has called him “a true original”. Recently relocated to Vienna, he is ready to take his “originality” into new directions – come what may.

YANAGI duo (20:00)

And so they continued exploring affinities in a friend’s home studio, which resulted in founding YANAGI duo. Their common interest in musical structures hidden in various and variously vibrating objects enables a very natural communication through rolling typewriter or toothpicks bouncing along a plastic plate.
